BLOOD FACT According to WHO every day, almost 800 woman die from causes related to complications of pregnancy and severe bleeding is the single biggest cause of these deaths The donated blood can be used ONLY for 35-42 days. Hence, there is a constant need of replenish stocks in our blood banks.

BLOOD FACT According to WHO , road traffic injuries caused an estimated 1.24 million (12,40,000) deaths worldwide in 2010 with maximum deaths due to shortage of the blood. It can take up to 50 blood donors to help one car crash victim

BLOOD Blood flows everywhere through the human body. We cannot live without it. The heart pumps blood to all our body cells, supplying them with oxygen and food. Blood also carries proteins and cell fragments called platelets that let blood clot where there has been an injury.

BLOOD FACT A kidney transplant patient, on average, will need one to two units of red blood cells to get through surgery. A heart transplant patient, on average, will need four to six units of red blood cells.

BLOOD FACT A newborn open-heart surgery, on average, will need one to four units of red blood cells, one to two units of plasma, and one to four units of platelets. Every single drop matters. 3 teaspoons of blood can save a baby’s life

BLOOD FACT O A B AB Who can give you blood? People with TYPE O blood are called Universal Donors, because they can give blood to any blood type. People with TYPE AB blood are called Universal Recipients, because they can receive any blood type. Rh +  Can receive + or - Rh -  Can only receive - Universal Donor A B O AB Universal Recipient

BLOOD TYPE Not everyone has the same blood type! Blood type refers to features of the person’s red blood cells. There are hundreds of these different features.

Genetics of Blood Types Your blood type is established before you are BORN, by specific GENES inherited from your parents. You inherit one gene from your MOTHER and one from your FATHER. These genes determine your blood type by causing proteins called AGGLUTINOGENS to exist on the surface of all of your red blood cells.

Someone has to give blood in order for someone to receive blood. Did You Know? 450ml of blood can save as many as three lives. Every fraction of a second, someone in world needs blood. One out of every three of us will need blood in our life time. Even with all of today’s technology, there is NO SUBSTITUTE OF BLOOD. Someone has to give blood in order for someone to receive blood.
