Where does OSRP “belong”? We are part of the Graduate College Research Support Services includes: Office of Sponsored Research and Programs (OSRP) Office of Research Compliance and Proposal Development (ORCPD)

Completed proposals must be in OSRP at least two business days prior to the deadline to guarantee submission

Internal Routing Form Must accompany all proposal submissions Must be endorsed by the principal investigator and the academic unit head Must be submitted PRIOR to the proposal deadline. Can be found at our website

Budget – Categories of Cost Salaries and Wages Fringe Benefits Consultant Costs Equipment Supplies Travel Other Direct Costs (including tuition) Consortium Costs Indirect Costs/Facilities & Administration

Salaries and Wages Cost for employees/students proportionate to their level of effort on the project Consultants or subcontractual personnel are NOT considered salaries and wages for IIT

Fringe Benefits 22.6% - Faculty academic year salary 24.5% - Staff 7.92% - Faculty summer salary, part-time employees 0% - Student stipends

Consultants Expertise in the field, hired to give professional advice or services CANNOT be employees of IIT Consultant costs include their fee, travel reimbursement and reimbursement for other associated expenses. Documentation is required from the consultant.

Equipment Used for research or technical activities of project Acquisition cost of $2,500 or more per item

Supplies Tangible personal property with an acquisition cost less than $2,500 per item

Travel Must directly benefit the project Includes lodging, transportation, meals, etc. If federally funded, U.S. carrier for air travel MUST BE USED.

Other Direct Costs Graduate student tuition (currently $1,056* per credit hour) * Law, Stuart and Institute of Design have different rates Publication costs Service contracts Animal per diem costs

Consortium Costs/Subcontracts When a portion of the project takes place at another institution and involves programmatic, fiscal and administrative arrangements at the other institution. The other institution must be a separate legal entity independent of IIT. Costs include their direct AND indirect costs.

Indirect Costs 51% on-campus research 34% on-campus, non-research (i.e., education) 24% off-campus research and non-research 24% Moffett non-FDA programs 8% Moffett FDA programs 60% on-campus industry supported 30% off-campus industry supported 8% IPRO projects

Indirect Costs Base Total direct costs less: Equipment Tuition Subcontracts in excess of $25,000 (i.e., indirect costs are charged only on the first $25,000 of each subcontract) Participant support costs Rental costs of off-site facilities

What needs to come through OSRP? All sponsored research and sponsored projects must be routing through the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs (OSRP), whether the sponsor is a federal or non-federal entity. Per IIT policy, only the Authorized Institutional Official (AIO) can bind the University. The AIO is located in the OSRP office.
