Curator’s Office Contact me at [Your linked address] This committee is dedicated to preserving the history of Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont. It is made up of volunteers who enjoy history and who want to preserve and share our past. This committee represents each of the four legacy councils and many of its members have been trained by GSUSA. The dining lodge at Camp Golden Valley was named in honor of Woods W. Carriel who was executive director of Pioneer Girl Scout Council ( ). During her tenure the idea for a new camp was conceived, the property purchased, and the camp constructed. Return to Exhibit Woods Lodge Artifact 13

Linked citation goes here A gift from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation was received for the building of the dam which made the 15-acre Lake Lois Hilton at Camp Golden Valley. It was named in memory of the wife of the then executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Nelson Moore Amphitheater at Camp Golden Valley memorializes the 4-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas O. Moore, Jr., formerly of Gastonia, who was drowned in a tragic accident soon after the completion of the camp. Mr. Moore was general chairman of the over-all capital funds campaign which raised the entire amount of money to build Camp Golden Valley so that it was debt free before opening day. This building at Camp Golden Valley was named for Rosagray Jones who brought Girl Scouting to Rutherford County. Mrs. Jones, a long-time Girl Scout, did much research to find the proper site for Pioneer Council's camp, finally making the contacts necessary to procure the Queen property. The Perry Memorial barbecue area beside the lake at Camp Golden Valley was built with gifts to Pioneer Girl Scout Council in memory of Mrs. Jake Ballentine Perry, the mother of Mr. James Perry who worked long and hard in Rutherford County to further Girl Scouting there. He was Rutherford County chairman of the capital fund campaign to procure funds for building Valley Camp Golden. Given in memory of John William Patterson by his wife, Joy Patterson and his daughters, Crystal Patterson Ware, Wendy Patterson Benton and Tammy Patterson Barringer. These rocking chairs served as a gathering place on the porch of Woods Lodge at Camp Golden Valley. “My father was such a great ‘Girl Scout’, the ‘Troop Dad’ for all of our troops in the Cleveland Neighborhood,” said Tammy Barringer, Mr. Patterson’s daughter.
