NOAA Weather Wire Service (NWWS) Mission: Timely delivery of critical weather information Description: NWWS is a satellite data collection and redistribution system operated by the National Weather Service (NWS). NWWS singular purpose is to provide timely meteorological, hydrological, climatological, and geophysical information to state and federal governments, emergency managers, commercial users, media outlets (television, radio, social), and the general public. NWWS distributes NWWS text products to users/clients over various communication systems Satellite broadcasts (C-Band and L-Band) Open Interface and Nlets (International Justice and Public Safety Network)

NWWS Current Configuration (LEGACY) User Configuration has remained unchanged since 2000. (ref. CSC User’s Manual for the Weather Wire 2000 System)

NWWS Discussion/Open Forum 1. Losing diversity in communications given SCS1 satellite data stream will be lost with the termination of the CSC contract.  single point of failure with loss of redundancy   2. Dish size requirements; some clients have C-band dishes, some with Ku Band.  3. Changes in message formats.  Example; Text vs "wrapping of products in SBN/NOAAPORT hdlc frames“ 4. Open Interface TCP/IP vs XMPP Chat. . As NWWS proceeds with the transition, your cooperation, collaboration, and input are appreciated. Please feel free to contact NWS for more information about the upcoming change(s) or to provide input on system capabilities and proposed distribution methods and shortfalls of the available options.
