TRANSFORMATION BY JESUS

A PARALYTIC-FROM SICKNESS TO WHOLENESS

Mark 2:1-12

1. The first lesson for us is that Jesus miraculously heals some people from physical, emotional and spiritual afflictions.

2.The second lesson is that Jesus does not miraculously heal ALL people.

3. But there seems to be a third lesson in this passage that we may miss out on while we are discussing these first two.

verse 5, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”

Here is the question of the day, “Are there times that we get sick because we have not repented of sin in our life?”

I’m NOT talking about every illness or sickness, but could this be true of some of our illnesses?

“Let my whole being bless the LORD! Let everything inside me bless his holy name! Let my whole being bless the LORD and never forget all his good deeds: how God forgives all your sins, heals all your sickness,” Psalm 103:1-3

“He said, ‘If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands

and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.’” Exodus 15:26

“He will bring upon you all the diseases of Egypt that you dreaded, and they will cling to you.” Deuteronomy 28:60

“This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” Deuteronomy 30:19

“For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you

are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment.” 1 Corinthians 11:29-31

“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23

“Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.

And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.” James 5:14-15

“Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, ‘See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.’” John 5:14

All of these teach that there is a connection between sin and disease.

Unconfessed sins can be a block to us being healed by Jesus.

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear.” Psalm 66:18

The problem with our medical world today is that they only treat the physical body with no thought for the most part of the spirit or soul.

Let’s look at an example. Fear.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

Another great healer is to keep your forgiveness of others up to date.

We all know that we can keep our spirits well by intentionally confessing our sin daily.

But these Scriptures and many others teach that we also can keep our physical bodies well by intentionally confessing our sins daily.

If we find sin in our lives and repent of it, then we can actually PREVENT some sickness from ever entering our lives!

You see, repentance is not a bad thing, it is a great gift!
