Customs and traditions such as: Wearing Red Big Feast new year’s eve Dragon Dance Firecrackers

Wearing Red Red represents good luck and happiness for the new year.

Big Feast A big feast is eaten new year’s eve to show love and compassion.

Dragon Dance A dragon dance is performed to chase away evil spirits

Firecrackers Firecrackers are lit in the streets to scare away evil spirits, bringing in good luck

Taboos: Cleaning the house Married house wives Children crying Washing hair

Cleaning the House The house must be cleaned before the new year and when sweeping, it must not be out toward the door because it’s bad luck.

Married House Wives Married house wives cannot meet their in-laws on new year’s day because it foretells a troublesome relationship to your husband/wife and to your in-laws.

Children Crying The tears of children is believed to be bad luck for all of the family so parents are not allowed to spank or discipline children on new year’s day.

Washing Hair Washing hair on new year’s day is not prohibited because you are washing away all the good fortune from the new year.
