TITLE: Template for a 42” wide x 42” tall poster Put your name and other authors of your paper or poster here Put your institution’s address and name here About this Template This template was designed to produce a correctly sized poster for the Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy. You can modify it freely! This free template was downloaded and modified from PosterPresentations.com. Poster Basics – Poster Layout Figure 1 Figure 2Figure 3 ABAB Text Sizes You can use any typeface you like and at any size but be sure to use font sizes that enable people to view and read the contents of the poster at an arm’s length. Changing the Poster’s Column Layout Depending on how you layout your poster, you may want to change the column layout configuration. Alternative master layouts can be accessed through FORMAT>SLIDE LAYOUT. The slide design pane will open. From there you can select an alternate layout. Customizing the Template Color Schemes For those who wish to further personalize their poster presentation, we have included a number of printer-tested alternative color schemes for this poster template. If you want to change the default colors and use your own color scheme, go to FORMAT>SLIDE DESIGN. Select COLOR SCHEMES. Importing Photographs To insert an image to your poster go to INSERT>PICTURE>FROM FILE. Be sure the photo is of sufficient resolution for quality printing, but not so large as to create a PPT file that is > 1 MB. When the only source of a needed photo or graphic is the Web, scaling has to be applied with caution. Scaling an image more than three times its original size may introduce pixelization artifacts. Refer to figure 10 as an example. A simple way to preview the printing quality of an image is to zoom in at 100% or 200%, depending on the final size of the poster. What you’ll see is likely what you’ll get at printing time. Figure 10: Original image at 100%, enlarged 200% and 400%. Importing Tables & Graphs To import charts and graphs from Excel, Word or other applications, go to EDIT>COPY, copy your chart and come back to PowerPoint. Go to EDIT>PASTE and paste the chart on the poster. You can scale your charts and tables proportionally by holding down the Shift key and dragging in or out one of the corners. TABLE ONE Labeling your Headers The blue headers are used to identify and separate the main topics of your presentation. The most commonly used headers in poster presentations are: Introduction, Summary or Abstract Conclusion Materials and MethodsLiterature Cited ResultsAcknowledgements CHEP Poster Guidelines Contact Information To start using this template you first need to delete most of the contents of this page. Keep the poster title and one of the blue section headers. The cleared template should now look like in Figure 1. After you decide how many sections you need for your poster (Introduction, Methods, Results, References, etc.), use the “copy” and “paste” commands to create as many copies of the blue section headers as needed. You can now start adding your text. To add text use the text tool to draw a text box starting from the left edge of a column to the right edge and start typing in your text. You can also paste the text you may have already copied from another source. OPTIONAL LOGO HERE Posters are meant to be conversation starters and reference sources. Images, graphs, and short bulleted lists will garner attention and direct discussion. Less is more when it comes to posters! Poster Dimensions and Materials The maximum size for a poster is 42" wide X 42" tall (portrait). This allows two posters to be hung side-by-side on the provided poster stanchions. Posters should be printed on standard or heavyweight paper and may be laminated or vinyl. Do not use tri-fold systems, tag board, foam board, cardboard or other materials that cannot be hung with conventional push pins. Poster Printing The Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research (CIDER) at Virginia Tech extends an offer to print posters for presenters at the Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy, free of charge, then transport and hang them at the conference venue. Posters must be uploaded using the Presenter Utilities tool. For the last date on which to upload your poster to be printed for free, consult the conference web site. To use this free poster printing service, please adhere to the following: Maximum of 42” wide x 42” tall Single PowerPoint slide (we provide no editing or integration) Upload file using the Presenter Utilities tool. You will receive confirmation when your poster has been printed. Minimize use of color Background must be white File size should be less than 1.0 MB (reducing image sizes before adding to poster can help with this) Poster Hanging Posters are to be hung in Latham Ballroom C prior to the start of the conference on the day of your session. You will have access to the room one hour before the conference begins each day and up through the poster session start. We ask that posters be hung as early in the day as possible to avoid delays. Posters printed by CIDER will be transported to the conference site and hung by staff the morning of the session. Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research 111 Hillcrest Hall For the last date on which to upload your poster to be printed for free, consult the conference web site.
