(Sub)Millimeter Galaxies CFIRB: approximately = extragal. Opt./UV 100s of galaxy candidates detected High z:  2.4 High implied luminosities (L~10 13 L solar ) & SFRs (~10 3 M solar /year) Masses from CO: molecular ~10 10 M solar dynamical ~10 11 M solar

Bolocam Candidates—CSO Pixel Sensitivity Histogram Jackknife Histogram 17 Galaxy Candidates 324 square arcminutes (0.25 sq. deg. survey of COSMOS underway) = 1.1 mm (Laurent et al., ApJ, 623, 742)

P(D) Fluctuation Analysis N(S)  S -δ δ = /-0.15 (1mJy  S ν  10mJy) N(>1 mJy) = /-140 deg -2 (95% confidence) Results (Maloney et al. 2005) δ similar to theoretical expectations (Blain et al. 2002) Although integral number counts N(>1 mJy) 2-3  lower than 1.2 mm observations (Greve et al. 2004) & models Wider & deeper observations underway will more fully characterize the number counts
