Thomas Jefferson Thomas Jefferson was the 3 rd president of the United States. He began appearing on the $2 bill in He was a friend of Benjamin Franklin. He wrote the Declaration of Independence.

On April 13, 1976, on Jefferson’s birthday, the $2 bill was again printed for people to use. The government hoped that people would choose the $2 bill instead of using the $1 bill. Why would the government want people to use the $2 bill?

Our government wanted people to use the $2 bill because it hoped to print half as many $1 bills. This would save the government time and money by printing fewer bills.

Money is used to help others.
