Highway Interchange

Network Interchange

What is a GigaPop? ABQ-G Establishing an aggregation point of National networks (Gigapop) such as NLR and Internet2 Establishing an interchange point of networks within New Mexico such as CHECSNet, LANL, Time Warner and Qwest

Sometimes there is a Toll (cost)

SFRTC Estimated Costs NMNLR – no usage cost to City or County up to 100Mb NMNLR - $3K Membership Fee Local Loop Costs Install costs at ABQ-G Install costs at SFRTC node in Santa Fe

Sometimes There Is Not a Cost Part of Membership Fee Connectivity to various NM locations such as University of New Mexico Peering arrangements enabling to keep network traffic ‘local’ and more efficient Connectivity to various initiatives such as IDEAL and NMCAC

Some Other Options that have Fees Lower Internet 1 costs by participation in Aggregation of Internet 1 costs and paying % of usage Joining Internet 2 NM Cooperative Joining CHECSNet Consortium

Network Principles Network of Networks Public networks should work together Acquire fiber where possible Share build plans to avoid redundancy Create self-sustaining operations through shared costs Facilitate research, education, government and economic development
