When you retire, what happens to your ABSS leave balances? The following is paid (as it applies to your situation) to you by ABSS: Annual leave up to 30 days. Any annual leave over 30 days rolls over into your sick leave. (See Sick Leave item below.) Bonus leave Bonus/Annual Leave Installment pay Longevity pro-rated through your last day of employment Personal leave is never paid out. However, it rolls over into your sick leave. (See Sick Leave item below.) Sick leave is never paid out. However, it is reported to the retirement system, and is added to your retirement years of creditable service, increasing your retirement service. (See Sick Leave Conversion Sheet.)

When the Retirement System Receives Your Application for Retirement, You Will Receive At Least Two Mailings As Follows: The First Mailing Will Include: Acknowledgement Letter Form 333, Notice of $10,000 Contributory Death Benefits for Retired Members Form 170, Authorizing Direct Deposit (as a Retiree) Online HM, Selecting Retiree Health Insurance through the State Health Plan Online and instructions to enroll electronically or by telephone on the State Health Plan. (There is no paper form; enrollment must be done either online or by phone.) Enrollment is vital to ensure that your health insurance coverage is effective the first of the month following your retirement date.

When the Retirement System Receives Your Application for Retirement, You Will Receive At Least Two Mailings As Follows: The First Mailing: Return completed documents to the State Retirement System Remember, forms and correspondence will be sent directly to you and it is your responsibility to complete and return any forms to the North Carolina Retirement System. It is also your responsibility to complete online health insurance enrollment as a retiree.

When the Retirement System Receives Your Application for Retirement, You Will Receive At Least Two Mailings As Follows: The Second Mailing Will Include: Report of Estimated Retirement Benefits Form 6E, Choosing Your Retirement Payment Option (Form 6E must be notarized - do not sign until a notary can witness your signature.) Form 290, Choosing Income Tax Withholding Preference Form 336, Designating Beneficiary(ies) for the Guaranteed Refund as a Retiree (Form 336 must be notarized - do not sign until a notary can witness your signature.)

When the Retirement System Receives Your Application for Retirement, You Will Receive At Least Two Mailings As Follows: The Second Mailing: Return completed and notarized documents to the State Retirement System Remember, forms and correspondence will be sent directly to you and it is your responsibility to complete and return any forms to the North Carolina Retirement System.
