Presentation transcript:

Despite years of training and public education only one in four witnessed arrests receives CPR before EMS arrives 75% That means that 75% of bystanders will not or do not know how to do CPR 89%! Reality is In Florida the percentage may be as high as 89%! Instances of CPR Documented for Cardiac Arrest Prior to EMS Arrival ( ) CPR PERFORMEDINSTANCESPERCENT NO327, % YES36, %

In Florida, it takes an average of 7 minutes for rescue to arrive when a 911 call is made + Each minute from collapse, the chance of survival decreases 7-10 % = Almost NO CHANCE of survival unless patient has been receiving CPR prior to EMS arrival

The two simple steps of Hands-Only CPR are key to the survival of an adult or teen who suddenly collapses. Dial 911 Immediate and continuous compressions in the center of the chest until help arrives at a rate of 100 beats per minute. “Staying Alive” or “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” DOUBLES THE CHANCE OF RECOVERY

1.Review Principles of Hands Only CPR focusing on the 3 steps 2.State the importance of bystander CPR and the ease of performance 3.Demonstrate the principles and do compressions on the manikin 4.Have student demonstrate steps and 30 seconds of CPR with instructor feedback 5.Answer questions and provide handouts
