December 10-12, 2008/ARR 3 IHHFC Workshop -Session 2 Long term HHFC concepts (power plants) For all designs, W alloy development required to widen operating temp. range and to develop reliable fabrication and joining processes. - ~700°C (governed by W ductility considerations) to enable coupling to an ODS ferritic steel manifold -~1300°C (governed by the W recrystallization limit) to provide desirable high-temperature capability) Need ODS FS with high enough temperature for joining with W - ~ 800°C Off normal events - thermal effects on PFC -a few disruptions a year (~ 3-10MJ/m 2, 1-3 ms) -No VDE (~60 MJ/m 2, 0.2 s) -A few uncontrolled ELMs (~1.5 MJ/m 2 over 0.4 ms) -Controlled ELM’s perhaps acceptable with W (~0.3 MJ/m 2 over 0.4 ms)
