Personal Mission Statement Clarifying Why I’m Here

Philippians 3: Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. Hebrews 6:1 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God

2 nd Timothy 1:9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began

Four Statements: 1.Personal Mission Statement 2.Family Priorities 3.Church Ministries 4.Career Goals

Qualities of Good Statements One Sentence (OK, if you have to make it two, fine, but you need to be able to repeat it) Clear – if you repeated it to your children they would know what you meant Ultimate Result – What will it look like when you’ve done it? How to Get There – What you are going to do to accomplish your purpose.

Qualities of Good Statements Factor in Your Uniqueness – What strengths do you intend to build on? What weaknesses are you going to grow out of? What are your growth points? Who are the Beneficiaries? – Who are you doing this for?

Things to Think About Do you have an unlived life spiritually… a life you’ve always known you should live, but haven’t chosen to? Do you have unused gifts… gifts you have chosen not to use? What do people tell you that you are really good at? What are you excited about being a part of? Is it really worthy of that level of enthusiasm?

What angers you in the world that you could do something about? Is it worth being mad about? When you think of the ideal life, what does it look like? When it’s all done and over, what would you want us to be able to say at your funeral?

When you read your personal mission statement, is it distinctively Christian, or could a “nice” lost person have written it?
