COST-529 WG1 meeting and workshop: Electric Conductivity Model of Discharge Lamps A. Richter, J. Václavík, J. Koprnický Department of Electrical Engineering FMIES TU of Liberec - Czech Republic Concept of the work with model?

30/03-03/04/2006COST Action 529, MC + WG Meetings in Mierlo,NL 2 Why we need electrical model of light discharge? Modelling of the electric loads (discharge lamps). Simulation of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and solution of EMC problems. Optimization of power distribution problems to obtain higher efficiency of lighting systems. Computer aided design (CaD) of electromagnetic and electronic ballasts.

30/03-03/04/2006COST Action 529, MC + WG Meetings in Mierlo,NL 3 Universality of the electric conductivity model? Are these equations and their modifications universal [1, 2]? Coefficients of equation depend on current and voltage waveshapes. For this reason the model depends on linear and mainly on nonlinear circuit elements.

30/03-03/04/2006COST Action 529, MC + WG Meetings in Mierlo,NL 4 Universality of the equation From previous experiments is obvious universality of the conductivity equation, but not of coeficients. With specific coeficients only one work condition could be verified → the primary goal to create the coefficients database is then disputable.

30/03-03/04/2006COST Action 529, MC + WG Meetings in Mierlo,NL 5 What will be the next step? Possible direction: –Modelling of the whole power net – transformers, lines, ballasts, capacitors and discharge lamps under standard power conditions (50 Hz, 230 V). We have to take stability and perturbation of discharge model and indeterminacy of parameters into account.

30/03-03/04/2006COST Action 529, MC + WG Meetings in Mierlo,NL 6 Solution Research of luminary systems: –Powering of luminary system by supply with defined parameters; source of ‘net’ voltage - results of such experiments will be used as a reference database. Research of electrical light discharge behaviors: –Powering of light discharge by supply with defined current waveform [3].

30/03-03/04/2006COST Action 529, MC + WG Meetings in Mierlo,NL 7 Does have the conductivity model its own future in practical aplications?
