Supernovas BY: Stephen, Sam, and Brett

What is a supernova? A supernova is a big explosion that occurs at the end of a star’s lifetime.

Type Ia Supernova Type Ia- Supernova is where two stars orbit each other. In one possible scenario, there are two stars approximately the same size -- let's say about the size of our sun. At a certain point in their lifetimes, each star will expand into a red giant, then turn into a white dwarf.

Why Does a type II Supernova Occur? A type ll supernova occurs when a big star’s nuclear fuel runs out and is no longer supported by the release of nuclear energy.

Type II Supernova When a type II supernova explodes the collapsed core is also left behind by a type II supernova explosion. If the mass of the core is less than 2 or 3 solar masses, it becomes a neutron star. If more than 2 or 3 solar masses remains, not even neutron degeneracy pressure can hold the object up, and it collapses into a black hole.

Hyper nova A hyper nova is type of supernova, it is said to be the most powerful explosion in the universe, a hyper nova produce 100 times more energy then a supernova, A hyper nova may be the explosion of a star very massive that has been spinning very quickly, or it may be bathed in a powerful magnetic field

White Dwarfs A white dwarf is what a star and our sun will turn into when they run out of nuclear fuel. They can also form supernovas, by having material ripped off of a star and collecting on a white dwarf and if it gets too heavy it explodes.
