Fiber Stretching Instrument Peggy Brown MAT Design Team University of Idaho

Project Description  Design and fabricate an apparatus capable of stretching a fiber specimen.  Establish and maintain a testing point for a laser.  Measure a uniform load of 5 grams.  Measure the deflection traveled  Be able to withstand a corrosive effect

4.Deflection E6S –Incremental rotary optical encoder –100 counts per revolution (1:11200 inches : encoder counts in 4x mode) –Optical disk can be changed for better resolution ED3 –Digital encoder counter –Six digit display –Capable of 4x counting mode

Total Cost - $1, Material and mechanical costs - $ Measurement components - $1, hours of CNC machining 50 hours of manual mill machining Many, many, hours of research, design, and shop preparations.
