CONTENTdm Important Features and Capabilities

CONTENTdm provides an “out of the box” solution to a complex web programming challenge. With minimal customization, organization can begin hosting digital media objects on-line.

CONTENTdm can deliver a multitude of digital object types to web browsers. Images (Gif, JPEG, JPEG2000) Audio (MP3, WMA, etc.) Video (MOV, MPEG, WMV) PDF Other (Word, Powerpoint, etc.)

CONTENTdm can present compound objects such as books and manuscripts, retaining their structure.

Zoom and pan abilities require no special plug-ins or added software on the client side.

Different collections can have their own custom metadata schemes. Mapping fields to Dublin Core equivalents allows cross-collection searching.

When searching on a single collection, the collection’s native metadata scheme is used.

Digital images and other assets aren’t “swallowed up” by the database application. User can find, edit and retrieve their items.

Your data isn’t “trapped” in a proprietary system. Data can be exported from collections in a number of ways for use in other database applications.

Tab-Delimited ASCII can be imported into Access, Excel, SQL Server, FileMaker, etc.

Each exported record contains the name of the digital object that belongs to it. You collection database can be reloaded or reassembled in another form with relative ease.

Custom Queries and Results module generates web code for creating custom web pages. No programming skills needed.

Custom “Front-end” pages can be created for specific collections.
