Presentation transcript:

LCFI Physics Studies Meeting, 22 nd November 2005Sonja Hillertp. 0 Response to presentation of our plans  very positive response to talk on LCFI vertex package: our plans for software development were welcomed; the vertex package is seen as an essential tool for the physics studies needed for optimisation of various aspects of global detector design; there was agreement that there are still deficiencies in the tracking capabilities currently available in MARLIN and that if our package was used with the current tracking, the results might not give a realistic picture of the detector performance timescale for our software development considered realistic (comment by Ties Behnke)

LCFI Physics Studies Meeting, 22 nd November 2005Sonja Hillertp. 1 Developments in other areas I  tracking code in MarlinReco: vertex detector is now being used for tracking in MarlinReco (Steve Aplin) tracks are found in the TPC and then extrapolated backwards into the vertex detector; this is a wrapper of the old BRAHMS code, suffering from all its deficiencies had discussion following earlier exchange with Ariane Frey who is building up a group working on vertex detector simulation and physics at MPI Munich; group linked to DEPFET development, but not tied to that technology; initial plan is to work on vertex detector standalone tracking, later to be combined with tracking in the TPC (Alexei Raspereza);  particle flow algorithms: PFA algorithm ´WOLF´ by A Raspereza has become standard in MarlinReco promising development of alternative code by CALICE-Cambridge group started for the time being, both rely on cheaters for tracking - how realistic is performance?

LCFI Physics Studies Meeting, 22 nd November 2005Sonja Hillertp. 2 Developments in other areas II  detector description: Damien Grandjean has implemented a GEANT-4 description of the vertex detector in the format needed for MOKKA this description provides a set of free parameters that can be chosen by the user (e.g. R bp ), to be extended in the future  MC samples: DESY set up to generate ´significant MC samples´ using the GRID initially planned to generate samples to investigate performance of tools, later physics  physics studies: discussion with Pascal Gay: interested in using our package when available, to look at ZHH events that channel definitely requires b- and c-tag, and might also profit from vertex charge agreed to stay in contact
