Weather Lauren,Berlyn,Tricia IS Ecology 3&4

What is Weather? The state of the atmosphere with respect to wind, temperature, cloudiness, moisture, pressure. Short Term –Days –Weeks –Months

Atmosphere The gaseous envelope surrounding the earth; the air.

LowPressure Low Pressure Air rises in low pressure systems When the air rises it condenses into clouds and rain, snow, sleet.

Rain and Storms Rain and storms are the result of a low pressure system.

Clouds Increased water vapor creates clouds during a low pressure system

High Pressure Often occurs when there is uneven heating of the ground. Causes the hot air to rise and spread out. Associated with clear, cool weather. Can cause “cold snaps” –Unseasonably cold and sunny weather are observed. Clear skies are indicative of a high pressure system

Muskegon’s Lakeshore weather is effected seasonally by Lake Michigan!

Lake Effect Snow

Acid Rain & Effect on Michigan Our Lake has a Lime stone bottom! Limestone is ancient coral and shells Limestone is our buffer. “Tums” Our lake has a ph of 8-8.5

Acid Rain Cycle

Negative Effects on Other Locations Appealing to the eye Lowers pH Acid Rain kills off Everything NOT SAFE TO TOUCH This lake has a pH of 2.1 We cannot swim in anything under 6
