University Consortia on Sustainable Land Use and Natural Resource Management SLUSE

The DUCED 1 -SLUSE consortium involves seven departments at two Danish universities -University of Copenhagen (KU) -- Roskilde University Centre (RUC). 1)Danish University Consortia for Environment and Development, funded by Danced/Danida for further information on DUCED-SLUSE see:

The objectives of the SLUSE program can be summarized as follows: ”.....establishment of partnership.... with special emphasis on enhancing capacities on curriculum development and stronger interdisciplinary integration.” “To develop a coherent interdisciplinary base for improvement of the ongoing research activities…..by appropriate twinning arrangements, collaborative research projects etc.”

A number of new courses have been developed by SLUSE, but most important is the joint course Interdisciplinary Land Use and Natural Resource Management (ILUNRM) -Interdisciplinary teaching and project work -Collaboration with local students at partner universities -Co-teaching by staff from six different university departments in Denmark as well as local teachers at partner universities

The Joint Field Based Course (ILUNRM) Problem identification; problem formulation; theoretical framework; data sources / method selection; project preparation and presentation

Course structure ILUNRM Preparation in Denmark: –Internship course, early February –Lectures/exercises (3-4 weeks) Field Work in Malaysia, Thailand or South Africa: –2½ weeks, either week or March Reporting in Denmark (3-4 weeks) Exam Late April
