BIDS – Majoring in Human Geography Autumn 2015; Spring 2016

Lund University / Social Science / Human Geography / HUMAN GEOGRAPHY Kulturgeografi och ekonomisk geografi Welcome!

Lund University / Social Science / Human Geography / Human Geography is about the study of social phenomena in space and time.

Lund University / Social Science / Human Geography / Human geography is concerned with the understanding of the dynamics of cultures, societies and economies and puts this understanding of social and physical processes within the context of places and regions - recognising the great differences in cultures, political systems, economies, landscapes and environments across the world, and the links between them. Understanding the causes of differences and inequalities between places and social groups underlie much of the newer developments in human geography.

Lund University / Social Science / Human Geography / Geography provides an ideal framework for relating other fields of knowledge. It is not surprising that those trained as geographers often contribute substantially to the applied management of resources and environments.

Lund University / Social Science / Human Geography / Geography is, in the broadest sense, an education for life and for living. Learning through geography – whether gained through formal learning or experientially through travel, fieldwork and expeditions – helps us all to be more socially and environmentally sensitive, informed and responsible citizens.

Lund University / Social Science / Human Geography / Human Geography in Lund The Department of Human Geography was established in mid 50's when the discipline of Geography was divided into Physical Geography and Human Geography. The beginning of 60's was marked by the establishment of the study field of Economic Geography. Nowadays the department has around 400 students and more than 50 employees.
