Presentation transcript:

 People get scared when things don’t go the way they thought they would  Performances can be powerful and intimidating  Performances can be very personal and intimidating

 Don’t panic  Look to your generics  Move beyond the flashy exterior  Break the argument down in a way that makes sense to you  don’t discount the little things

 What is the function/purpose of the performance?  What is the role of the ballot?  Why should the judge endorse the performance?  How does performance accomplish your opponent’s goal?  What philosophy underlies the argument?

 Aff/neg must offer policy option  Traditional methods of debate have value  Traditional debate key for institutional change  Why is what you normally do the right way to debate?  Policy debate does not exclude performance  “run it on the other side”  May impact turn

 Many critiques have identity politics and performance links  Performance arguments still have assumptions that underlie them  Shifts the debate onto familiar ground  Cap will generally link to what they do

 Also offer a performance that solves better or has a net benefit  Not advisable  You can very easily make an idiot of yourself or offend someone  Stick to what you know  Don’t try to throw something together on the fly You can’t out-crazy Ophelia
