Comparison can be made on basis of Historical evolution of migration Determinants and driving forces Institutions and Policy Framework

Important differences: Unlike the EU, “free movement of labour” is not a founding principle of ASEAN EU is faced with strong migration pressures from third countries, not ASEAN EU – welfare states vs ASEAN capitalism Differentials in levels of economic development much narrower in EU than in ASEAN
