ROME

HOW IS ROME Rome is located on the first floor of the Tiber river. Is the most important centre of political, artistic and social acts of Italy.

Rome is the capital of the catholic world, due to the important centre that is The Vatican, where Pope lives and where the religious celebrations take place.

HISTORY The foundation of Rome is due to the two brothers who were nursed by a wolf. In a fight between Rómulo and Remo, Rómulo was the winner, so the name of the city was Rome.

GENERAL INFORMATION Climate Climate in Rome is normally stable, the seasons are very accentuated. More warm months are July and August with 35º approximately. During November, rainy days are abundants. The winters are soft with temperatures between 5º and 15º.

Public Transport Roman buses and tramways depends of Cotral company. You can get information in Piazza del Risorgimento, Piazza San Silvestro and in the 35 small green houses of ATAC company, distributed all over the city. You must come in the bus by the back entry and come out the bus by the centre. Diurnal services are at work form 5.30h to 23.30h. Nocturnal buses run over the city over the principal routes from midnight to 5.30h.

Metro is specially advisable for cross the city rapidly. Roman metro has only two lines, A and B Both of the lines cross each other in Stazione Termini. Stations of Colosseo, Spagna, Barberini, Repubblica, Termini and San Giovanni are good for seeing the most important monuments.

Tickets Tickets are sold at tobaccos, bars, and authorized stablishments. You can get, in all of the establishements before mentioned, the Biglietto integrato (BIG), valid for a day of unlimited transport at buses of ATAC, COTRAL, metro and the ES net train. The weekly turistic tickets are only valid for buses and metro.

Taxis The official roman taxis are yellow, or even white, with the Taxi placard on the bonnet. Use only these and repel the offers in places like Fuimicino or Termini. For calling a taxi you can choose one of the diposable companies, like Cosmos Radio Taxi (881 77), Autoradio Taxi (35 70) or Capitale Radio (49 94). In the town centre there are stoppages in termini, Piazza Venezia, Largo Argentina, Piazza San Sonnino, Vault, Plaza de España and Piazza San Silvestro.

ENTERTAINMENT Opera and Classic Music The choir della Capella Giulia sings in San Pedro every Sunday at 11:00. The recitals outdoors take place in the cloisters of Santa María della Pace in July, the Villa Doira in July, in the gardens of the Villa Giulia in summer and in the archeological area of Marcelo´s theatre from July to September as part of the “Estate al Tempietto” or also called “Concerti del Tempietto”.

Sports events In Rome there are too many sports of spectacle, like: * Motor racing: the big events take place in the track or Valley Lunga. * Greyhound races: they take place in the ponte Marconi. There are also sports of participation, like: *Cycling: There are parks with reserved zones for this sport. *Golf: Castelgandolfo Country Club, Acqua Santa, Olgiata, Largo Olgiata and Fioranello are the golf clubs of Rome. *Horseriding: It can be practised in Riding Club or in “Circolo Ippico Fiano Romano”.

*Tennis: It´s essential to make a reservation for the public tracks in EUR, Foro Italico, Tennis Belle Arti and Tre Fontane. The main tennistic event is the International Open, which takes place in the Foro Italico at the end of May.
