Mobile Learning Initiative Update August 22, 2013

Objectives of Mobile Learning Initiative To create learning experiences for students and teachers that develop one’s ability to be a continuous learner. To develop problem solving skills in order to create answers to important questions. To develop the ability to communicate ideas to a variety of audiences.

Professional Development Focus of professional development: –demonstration and modeling of how to integrate aspects of the iPad into the classroom –time to work in teams to modify or create curriculum that successfully integrates the technology to enhance student learning

Professional Development High School –April 23 or 24 create, collaborate, curate, communicate, and organize while planning lessons and working with students –June 11 Google Forms and Edmodo –June 27 iMovie and AppleTV –August 22 Mastery Manager online

Professional Development Middle School –May 14 create, collaborate, curate, communicate, and organize while planning lessons and working with students –May 31 Vision, Skillful teacher –Routines, strategies, curricular integration

iAgents Six students –three seniors, one junior, and two sophomores. Out of 77 applicants Skills assessment, teacher recommendations, interview Assisted students in setting up the iPad Created training hand-outs Created training videos

iAgents During the school year: –Will assist students during lunch periods –Will monitor support forums and will respond to posts –Will create training videos for students and teachers

iAgent Help Desk As a means to provide additional support for students, an online help desk has been created. iAgent Help Desk

iPad Deployment Asset tag –Sticker –Inventory Configure (IOS, standards, settings for wireless & MDM) Push Apps –Push Absolute Rename to match student

Information for Parents and Students Terms and Conditions to Participate in Mobile Learning Initiative –Signed by both parents and students Mobile Learning Guidelines for Students and Parents Internet Safety and Your Middle School Student

iPad Orientation and Pick Up Total number of iPads to distribute: 1303 –Online registration Daytime and evening hours available 30 students per hour Self-paced set-up process Total distributed over seven days: 1195

iPad Orientation and Pick Up Self-paced training –Approximately30 to 40 minutes to complete set-up Students were able to individualize the set-up –At their pace –Hands-on –Fully engaged Significant number of those trained receive accommodations during the school year

iPad Orientation and Pick Up Make-up days: –Two days at the High School 77 iPads at the High School –One ½ day at each middle school 16 iPads at Middle School North 15 iPads at Middle School South
