1 BBQ Safety Use Care When Firing Up That Barbecue Grill!

2 Why? Over 76% of American households own a grill Annually: – 6,100 accidental fires and explosions occur – 20,000 emergency room visits – $29.1 million of estimated damage.

33  Never use a grill indoors.  10 feet away from house or any building.  Not in garage, breezeway, carport, porch or under an awning.  Never unattended (small children and pets)  Watch for overhead obstructions.  Fire extinguisher.  Manufacturers' instructions. Outdoor Grilling Safety Tips

44 A few simple precautions around the barbecue grill can not only protect the chef but also the hamburgers, hot dogs and steaks!  Check and clean tubes leading into the burner.  Check grill hoses – kinks, cracking, brittleness, holes and leaks.  Move gas hoses as far away as possible from hot surfaces and dripping hot grease.  Replace scratched or frayed connectors. Gas Grill Safety Tips

55  Check for gas leaks (following instructions!)  NEVER use a match to check for leaks.  If you detect a leak, immediately turn off the gas and don't attempt to light the grill again until the leak is fixed.  Keep lit cigarettes, matches, or open flames away from a leaking grill.  Don’t try to repair the tank valve or the appliance yourself.  Keep the containers upright.  Never store a spare under or near the grill or indoors.  Never store or use flammable liquids, like gasoline, near the grill. Gas Grill Safety Tips

66  Transport in a secure upright position.  Be sure your propane tank has an over-fill prevention device.  In a hot car or car trunk the relief valve may open and allow gas to escape.  Follow the manufacturers' instructions when connecting or disconnecting a propane tank to your grill. Gas Grilling Safety Tips

77  Never use indoors, even with ventilation  Never gasoline or kerosene as lighter fluid.  Never restart the flame by adding additional lighting fluid to a lit grill.  Only use a UL-Listed electrical charcoal lighter. Charcoal Grill Safety Tips
