EI Codes Angelique Luedeker, ITEP

CODES!!! Why do we need them? ◦Computers organize information by number ◦Standardize descriptions and categories Examples ◦States – CO, Co, Colo., Colorado ◦A computer would rather see 08 ◦ takes some guesswork out

FIPS Codes FIPS - Federal Information Processing Standard States, counties, tribes ◦Example  Kansas = 20 (2 digit)  Brown County = 013 (3 digit)  Kickapoo = 861 (3 digit)

SCC - Source Classification Codes Approximately 9,000 valid codes ◦Maintained / categorized by U.S. EPA Source Classification ◦Point Sources = 8-characters ◦Nonpoint, Non-Road, On-Road, Event and Biogenic Sources = 10-characters EVERY SOURCE you enter into TEISS must have an SCC ! Used as primary identifying data element in EPA's National Emission Inventory (NEI)

SCC for Point Sources Example: = 8-characters For each SCC, four levels of descriptions ◦SCC 1 Description (3): Industrial Processes ◦SCC 3 Description (02): Food and Agriculture ◦SCC 6 Description (005): Feed and Grain Terminal Elevators ◦SCC 8 Description (01): Shipping and Receiving

SCC for Nonpoint and Other Sources Example: = 10-characters The 10-character SCCs are used for Nonpoint, Non-Road, On-Road, Event and Biogenic sources For each SCC, four levels of descriptions ◦SCC 2 Description (26): Waste Disposal, Treatment, and Recovery ◦SCC 4 Description (26-10): Open Burning ◦SCC 7 Description ( ): Residential ◦SCC 10 Description ( ): Household Waste

SIC and NAICS Codes SIC - Standard Industrial Classification NAICS – North American Industry Classification System Economic sector codes Beginning in 1997, SIC replaced by NAICS NAICS reorganizes categories on production/process- oriented basis You must assign NAICS code to EVERY POINT SOURCE you enter into TEISS!

TEISS View – SIC and NAICS Codes – How to Find Them

Let’s Start a Project Open TEISS View Click ‘New’ Name your project, remember the name Inventory year = 2011 Select your state and tribe ◦Notice the FIPS code for your tribe Database Login ◦For Database Name, enter the name of your TEISS project ◦Leave User Name as “sa” ◦Database Password is “eiview”

Then we’ll find some SCCs Application Credentials ◦Leave User Name as Administrator ◦Password is “Teiss” (w/ a capital T) Starting a Project (cont.)
