(November 5th) THE PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN ARE BALANCE, CONTRAST RHYTHM, PATTERN, MOVEMENT, UNITY, AND EMPHASIS. Pick three and describe how this current DHS art student used them.

HOW DO YOU DEFINE ART? THE PIECE BELOW IS MADE OUT OF LEGOS, DO YOU BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED ART? WHY? All credit for the creation of this slide goes to Nicole Brisco of Pleasant Grove High School (November 9th)

Art Criticism Description Analysis Interpretation Judgment All credit for the creation of this slide goes to Nicole Brisco of Pleasant Grove High School

In this work by MC Escher the artist showcases a highly creative image. The first step of an art criticism is DESCRIPTION. Look at this image closely and describe every detail that you see. All credit for the creation of this slide goes to Nicole Brisco of Pleasant Grove High School (November 16th)

Second Step of an art criticism is ANALYSIS. Discuss the 5 elements of art and how you see them in the piece by Sandy Skoglund. All credit for the creation of this slide goes to Nicole Brisco of Pleasant Grove High School (November 18th)

The 3 rd step of an art criticism is INTERPRETATION. American Gothic by Grant Wood is one of the most reproduced works of art in history. What do you think the meaning is? Why? Tell me about these two people? All credit for the creation of this slide goes to Nicole Brisco of Pleasant Grove High School (November 29th)

The 4 th step of an art criticism is JUDGMENT. Think back through the other 3 steps. Do you like this work? Why or why not.

These two paintings were done by the same artist Chuck Close. Which painting do you believe took more artistic talent. Why? Which one do you believe he became more famous from? Why?

The Vietnam Memorial was designed by an undergraduate art student from Yale University named Maya Linn. The finished design was chosen in a contest. Why do you think they selected such a simple design. Do you like the wall? Why or why not? Does her design fit the four criteria below: 1. be reflective and contemplative in character; 2. harmonize with its surroundings; 3. contain the names of those who had died in the conflict or who were still missing; 4. make no political statement about the war.

DESIGN IS EVERWHERE AREOUND US. ARTISTS ARE PAID TO CREATE THESE MEMORABLE IMAGES. LOOK AT THESE LOGOS. WHAT SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES DO YOU SEE WITHIN THE WORDS OR LETTERS? WHY WOULD AN ARTIST CREATE SOMETHING THAT SEEMS HIDDEN?

These are buildings designed by Frank Gehry. Architecture says a lot about history. How do you think society will be defined in 100 years based on these designs.
