Primary manual 6 Lesson # 6 Adam and Eve Lived the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Angels taught Adam and Eve Moses 5:57-59 The gospel never changes. Angels taught the children of Adam and Eve that Jesus Christ would come and that He is the Savior of the world.

Adam and Eve need the gospel of Jesus Christ Moses 6: After the Fall, Heavenly Father promised Adam and Eve they could dwell with him again if they: believed in Him repented for their sins, were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. If they did this, they would receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Adam and Eve were commanded to teach their children Moses 6:57 The gospel of Jesus Christ is eternal… which means it is the same today as it was in the time of Adam and Eve.

Why did Adam and Eve need the gospel? Why do we need the gospel? Because no “unclean thing can dwell” in the kingdom of God. We need the gospel to teach us how to return to Heavenly Father. Moses 6:57

We are taught how to return to Heavenly Father. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. 4 th Article of Faith

The Children of Adam were taught how to return to Heavenly Father And he also said unto him: If thou wilt turn unto me and hearken unto my voice and believe (Faith), and repent of all thy transgressions, and be baptized, even in water, in the name of mine Only Begotten Son, … ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, asking all things in his name, and whatsoever ye shall ask, it shall be given you. Moses 6:52 Are the first principles and ordinances of the gospel the same in Adam’s day as they are today?

Let’s define a few words… Principle = A basic doctrine or law. Ordinance = A scared ceremony with spiritual meaning that is performed by someone with priesthood authority. Repentance Which of these are principles and which are ordinances? Baptism Receive the Holy Ghost

Adam and Eve have faith in Heavenly Father Moses 5:4-6 This scripture tells us that Adam obeyed Heavenly Father’s commandments. Read the scripture out loud to see if you can tell why we know Adam had faith in Heavenly Father.

How do we show the Savior we have faith?

Samoan children have faith When President Thomas S. Monson visited a small village on the island of Samoa, he had a strong feeling that he should shake the hands of all the 247 children who where there. He knew there wouldn’t be enough time, so he ignored the feeling. But before the closing prayer, the feeling came again, and he knew it was something he must do.

Samoan children have faith When President Monson told the children’s teacher that he wanted to shake hands with each child, they all beamed in excitement! Then President Monson found out the real reason for their happiness.

Samoan children have faith The children’s teacher said, “I told them that if each one would earnestly and sincerely pray and exert faith like in the Bible accounts of old, the Apostle would visit them, and through their faith, he would be impressed to greet each child with a personal handclasp.” President Monson said, “Tears flowed as each of those precious boys and girls walked by and whispered softly to us a sweet talofa lava (hello). The gift of faith had been evidenced.” (Adapted from an October 1966 general conference address.)

Adam and Eve Repented Moses 6:53-56 Heavenly Father forgave Adam and Eve for eating the forbidden fruit. He told Adam that each person comes to earth with free agency, and we are responsible for our own sins. Just like Adam and Eve, we learn good from evil.

Why did Adam and Eve need to repent? Why do we need to repent? Because no “unclean thing can dwell” in the kingdom of God. We need to repent of our sins so we can return to Heavenly Father. Moses 6:57

Baptism for Us. Baptism for Adam. Just like Adam was baptized by immersion (“laid under the water”), we are also baptized the same way. Moses 6:64

Adam was taught about the Holy Ghost. Just like Adam received the gift of the Holy Ghost, we too receive the comfort and peace that comes from the gift of the Holy Ghost. Moses 6:61, D&C 20:41

We can enjoy the blessing of the Gift of the Holy Ghost. I would like to share an experience I had when I knew the Holy Ghost helped me. Be thinking of a story you might want to share.

Let’s define more words… The Holy Ghost = a member of the Godhead and a personage of spirit who can help anyone who is worthy. The gift of the Holy Ghost = the right we receive after baptism, when we are confirmed, to have the Holy Ghost as a constant companion if we keep our baptismal covenants.

The gospel of Jesus Christ does not change. For the next few slides we will play a True/False game. I will make a statement. If what I say is true, then please stand up. If what I say is false, please stay seated.

Jesus Christ was baptized by immersion, so we are to be baptized by immersion. True?False?

My parents were taught to dress modestly and appropriately, but I should be able to dress any way I want. True?False?

Adam and Eve prayed to Heavenly Father, and I pray to Heavenly Father too. True?False?

The Holy Ghost helped only those people who lived long ago. True?False?

The people we read about in the scriptures were taught to have faith in Jesus Christ, and I am taught to have faith in Jesus Christ too. True?False?

Adam and Eve were taught the same principles and ordinances of the gospel as we have in the fourth article of faith. True?False? Faith Repentance Baptism Gift of Holy Ghost

Adam and Eve repented of their transgressions, so I don’t have to repent when I do wrong. True?False?

We read about paying tithing in the scriptures, but the law was only for people who lived long ago. True?False?

Jesus taught the people to love and serve others, and I have been taught to love and serve others too. True?False?

I testify of Jesus Christ
