Effect of ivermectin on Anopheles aquasalis, a malaria vector from South America Marcus Lacerda MD, PhD Fundação de Medicina Tropical Dr. Heitor Vieira Dourado Instituto Leônidas & Maria Deane (FIOCRUZ-AM)

Effect on survival -6 volunteers (3 male and 3 female) -Blood sample (5mL) -100 mosquitos/sample/time -Observation at 24 hours intervals -Dead mosquitos removed and counted METHODS Patient diagnosed with helminthiasis with ivermectin indication D0D2 D4 D7 -IC signature -New sample after 4h - Patient returns for new samples D14

Analysis including all the 6 volunteers samples (males and females) P < RESULTS 14 days post- ingestion effect

-LC 50 calculation -Evaluate the effect on the flight capacity -Evaluate the effect on the reproductive capacity -Evaluate the effect on the mosquito infection (P. vivax) -Verify the in vitro effect on P. vivax -Verify the mosquito gene expression profile under ivermectin effect -Perform the same studies with Anopheles darlingi (from the field), the major vector in South America -Evaluate ivermectin to massive drug administration (MDA) trials under discussion in the Brazilian Amazon FUTURE PERSPECTIVES
