How to Grow a Garden in a Bottle Prepared by: Mohammad Haddad

Growing a garden in a bottle You don’t need to be an expert to start a simple, creative indoor plant.

Materials A glass bottle Drainage materials Rich soil Plants or seeds Tweezers or a long, thin stick Plant Sprayer

The Glass Bottle Select a good bottle or a jar. Has to be large enough for the plants to grow. Must be cleaned and dried before using it.

Drainage Materials Bottles don’t have drainage holes and that can lead to the creation of fungi. Use sand or something similar.

Plant Selection choose plants or seeds of small indoor plants with same water requirements.

Let’s Do It

Step #1 using 2 inches of sand and pebbles can provide good drainage.

Step #2 Cover the sand and pebbles with soil. 2 inches of good quality soil is sufficient.

Step #3 Use the stick to put the seeds on the soil in different places

Watering the Plants Spray it with the water sprayer to put moisture into the bottle. Remember that it is always better to under water than over water to prevent the growth of fungus.

Light Requirement Place it in a bright place. Direct sun light can heat the bottle and burn the plants. Avoid continuous dark places.

Watch the Plants Grow The plants will need air, moisture, and light. The plants will grow and may need to be replaced with smaller plants every 6 months.

A Natural Garden in a Bottle This bottle was found in an old trash in the woods of southern Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA.

Thank You
