The Steps  One: Clearly define your opinion. What do you believe about your research topic? (This should be based on what you have found out in your research.)  Two: Focus on ONE main idea.  Three: Say something important. Why should the reader bother with your paper?  Four: Limit the thesis to your research. (Again what have your found out about your topic?)  Five: State the thesis in specific terms. Find the right word that expresses what you mean.
