About Photoshop Create a New Image Photoshop Tools Choose a Foreground or Background Color Select a Drawing Mode Commit a Change

Designed for work with bitmap (raster) images Created from groups of pixels of various colors

Click File (Alt + F) Click New (N) (Optional) Click Name (Alt + N) and type image name Click Preset (Alt + P, ↓ ) if desired and select preset size OR Click Width (Alt + W) and type value Click Height (Alt + H) and type value

Click Resolution (Alt + R) and type resolution value Click Color Mode (Alt + M, ↓ ) and select desired mode Click Background Contents (Alt + C, ↓ ) and select background color option Click OK and Enter

Move pointer over tool View name and shortcut key in tool tip.

Click on tool that shows a small triangle at bottom right. Hold down mouse button until hidden toolbar displays

To set color using the toolbox: Click Set foreground color or Set background color button on toolbox to open the open the Color Picker. Click a hue in the color slider (narrow band) in middle of Color Picker dialog box. Click a color in the select foreground color field The name of the large field box at the left is Select background color when you're selecting a background color. Click OK (Enter)

To set color using the Color Palette: Display color palette if necessary (F6) Click Set foreground color or Set background color button, if needed Drag color sliders as desired, OR click a color in the color ramp, OR create a color using the color picker.

To set color using the Swatches palette: Display swatches palette. Click desired color swatch to set foreground color. Ctrl + click desired color swatch to set background color

Click Switch Foreground and Background Colors button on toolbox OR Press X

Click Default Foreground and Background Colors button on toolbox OR Press D

Select a shape tool or the pen tool from the toolbox. Click the desired drawing mode on the options bar: Shape Layers Paths Fill Pixels

Make a change using the text tool or another tool that requires changes to be committed Click Commit button on the options bar (Enter) OR Click cancel button (Esc)
