Community service Project By: Brennan Wescott

Problem? I did my project on the homeless. Homelessness is when people do not have a home to go to or cannot provide enough money to keep their home. It is becoming common, not just in our community, but the entire country, due to our economy. We do not have many homeless shelters around, so its is important that we have places they can go to get off the streets.

How did I help? I volunteered at “Room At The Inn” at the Mount Olivet Church. Where we housed and fed 16 homeless people. I helped by cleaning up the house they were staying in, serving them dinner one night, and help move their things to the next church in charge of letting them stay there. That’s the church

What did I Learn? I Learned about some of the people I was serving, where they came from, what they did, and how they got to where they are. I also learned how many people in Dare County are actually homeless. And how doing something as simple as handing a few people something can make a big impact on the community. Plus I learned how easy it is for us to take things we have every day for granted. And how kind the people I served were surprised me, even after all they had been through, they still showed respect toward everyone.

Was It Worthwhile? Yes, I would say it the activity was very worthwhile. The “Room At The Inn” provided a place for those who needed it, and because they had somewhere to stay, they didn’t have to live in the cold weather we had that week. I would suggest for anyone who wants to do community service, because it gives you a chance to give or serve to those who are much less fortunate.
