There will be no perfect relationships 6. The whole earth (ground) is cursed 7. Work will be hard and life a struggle 8. Death enters into the world 9. They were banished from the very place they were created to be - the Garden of Eden 10. Their relationship with God is now broken

Cain and Abel

Genesis 4:1-11, 25 1 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, “I have gotten a man with the help of the Lord.” 2 And again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground. Cain and Abel

Genesis 4:1-11, 25 3 In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground, 4 and Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, 5 but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell. Cain and Abel

Genesis 4:1-11, 25 6 The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.” Cain and Abel

Genesis 4:1-11, 25 8 Cain spoke to Abel his brother. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him. 9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do not know; am I my brother's keeper?” Cain and Abel

Genesis 4:1-11, And the Lord said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground. 11 And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand… Cain and Abel

Genesis 4:3-5 And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, 5 but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. BQ: Why did the Lord have regard for Abel’s offering but not Cain’s?

Mark 12: And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” BQ: Why did the Lord have regard for Abel’s offering but not Cain’s?

1 John 3: For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 12 We should not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous. BQ: Why did the Lord have regard for Abel’s offering but not Cain’s?

Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. BQ: Why did the Lord have regard for Abel’s offering but not Cain’s?

The growth of Hope

“His face fell”

Genesis 4:6-7 6 The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.” Answer the questions

Genesis 4:6-7 6 The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.” Sin is crouching at the door

Genesis 3:16 To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for (i.e. against) your husband, and he shall rule over you.” It’s desire is against you

Genesis 4:8-9 8 Cain spoke to Abel his brother. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him. 9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do not know; am I my brother's keeper?” Cain kills Abel

Matthew 23: Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, 35 so that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. The blood of Abel

Themes in Genesis Four By Faith Sola Fide

Themes in Genesis Four By Faith Faith is the attitude whereby a person abandons all reliance in his/her own efforts to obtain salvation, be they deeds of piety, of ethical goodness or anything else. It is the attitude of complete trust in Christ, of reliance on him alone for all that salvation means. ~L.L. Morris, Ridley College, Melbourne

Themes in Genesis Four By Faith Genesis 15:5-6 5 And he brought Abram outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 6 And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.

Themes in Genesis Four By Faith Proverbs 3:5-6 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Themes in Genesis Four By Faith Romans 1: For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

Themes in Genesis Four By Faith Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Themes in Genesis Four Blood

Numbers 35:33 You shall not pollute the land in which you live, for blood pollutes the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of the one who shed it. Themes in Genesis Four Blood

Romans 5:8-9 8 But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. Themes in Genesis Four Blood

Colossians 1: For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. Themes in Genesis Four Blood

Hebrews 12: Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I tremble with fear.” 22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, 23 and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. Blood that speaks a better word

Nothing But the Blood Your blood speaks a better word Than all the empty claims I've heard upon this earth Speaks righteousness for me And stands in my defense Jesus it's Your blood (2x) Matt Redman ©2004 Thank You MusicCCLI #
