Borders and Geography  The states that border our state is North Carolina, Georgia and the Atlantic Ocean  Although South Carolina is the 11 th smallest state its land is incredibly diverse. It contains sandy beaches, flat land, rolling hills, mountains

Natural Resources/Agriculture and Farming  Granite, sand and gravel  Our state would be good for farming because the largest crops grown there are tobacco, soybeans and cotton

History and Additional Facts  In 1778 South Carolina becomes the eighth state.  Charlestown name is changed to Charleston in  South Carolina becomes the first state to succeed from the Union in 1860  In 2011 Nicki Haley becomes the first female govnor of South Carolina.

Places To Visit  Steeple chase (horse race) that takes place in late March.  There is a stock car race at Darlington in May.

Additional facts  The eastern part of South Carolina is a lowland that borders the Atlantic Ocean.  South Carolina had the first government supported lending library in 13 original colonies.  Carolina is Latin form of Charles.
