Did you know that the new structure at Wheeler will have a roof covered in grass and plant life? This is called a Green Roof, and they’re popping up on buildings all over the country.

Green roofs are made with vegetation and soil, or a growing medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane. It also might include additional layers, like a root barrier, drainage, or irrigation systems. This is a design for a green roof. Most green roofs have a similar design.

According to Mr. Esposito, Wheeler’s Business Manager, one of the primary reasons for buying the green roof is to MAKE A STATEMENT To the public that Wheeler is turning into a greener school

A professionally installed gravel roof lasts years. A green roof has a life expectancy of over 40 years and can last for up to 100 years. GOOD BAD

Why are we investing in a green roof for our new building?
