The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington Irving  What does it mean to “sell your soul”?  Are there things (wealth, success, fame, etc.) that you are willing to pay any price for?  Do you think it is ever worth the consequences you may suffer?

Some people will sacrifice anything to get what they want…..  Moral beliefs  Privacy  Family  Self-respect

Working with a partner, brainstorm a list of people—real or fictional— who fit this profile.  Pick one person and list his/her gains and their consequences.  Assign a value to each item and decide whether, overall, the prize was worth the price.  Be prepared to share.
