Top 10 things that you need to know regarding accommodations…

1. It is PSU’s responsibility to provide reasonable accommodations for students, faculty & staff

2. If you have a student in your class who is registered with the DRC then you will receive a “faculty letter” by at your pdx.edu account from the DRC specifically outlining the student’s accommodations Link to an example of faculty letter below: Faculty letter

3. Faculty play a vital role in the interactive process

4. Do ask, in private, if the student is registered with the DRC and if not then do a warm hand-off to the DRC

5. Do NOT mention that a student registered for the class except when reading the suggested note-taker language, and do not ask about the student’s diagnosis

6. If Faculty think that you cannot grant a reasonable accommodation then please have them consult with the DRC, Office of Equity & Compliance, or Carol Mack

7. Requests for accommodations for faculty or staff are provided by HR

8. The Testing Center works in close collaboration with the DRC to assist in providing student testing accommodations

9. There is a new Reasonable Accommodation/Access Policy that provides guidance and resources Link to an example of faculty letter below: Reasonable Accommodation/Access Policy

10. Failure to Accommodate complaints are investigated by the Office of Equity & Compliance

Prohibited Discrimination & Harassment Policies and Procedures

Investigates complaints of prohibited discrimination and harassment. Ensures compliance with federal and state equal opportunity laws and regulations. *Accommodation request made by faculty and staff will be managed by Human Resources. The Office of Equity & Compliance

PSU’s Prohibited Discrimination & Harassment Policy Discrimination means unreasonably treating an individual or group of individuals differently based on a “Protected Class” which includes age, disability, national origin, race, marital status, veteran status, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, genetic information, or any other basis protected by federal, state or local law, or in the use of Workers’ Compensation, the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) or the Oregon Family Leave Act (OFLA) and any other category covered by law.

Discriminatory Harassment means verbal or physical conduct by a student, faculty or staff based on a Protected Class or Protected Classes that is so severe, persistent or pervasive that it unreasonably interferes with or limits a student, faculty, staff, volunteer or PSU community member’s ability to participate in or benefit from the university’s educational and/or employment opportunities, programs or activities. Discriminatory Harassment includes Sexual Harassment.

Non-Retaliation No person shall retaliate against an individual for reporting discrimination or harassment, filing a complaint, participating in an investigation, participating in resolution of a complaint or any other activity protected under this policy, regardless of the outcome of the concern or complaint.
