en dash middle length – about half an em dash used to denote duration or separate number –8:00–5:00 –August 12–14 –pages 34–46 (as on a works cited page)
em dash longest dash used instead of parentheses to offset clauses where em dashes—like these—should be used instead An em is a unit of measure equal to the point size you are using. With 10-point type, an em dash would be about 10 points
