Concrete Barriers on Bridges All 4 DRPA Bridges Have Concrete Barriers Separating East/West Traffic Barriers Installed As Follows: –Commodore Barry Bridge, 2001 –Walt Whitman Bridge, 2001 –Ben Franklin Bridge, 2000 –Betsy Ross Bridge, 2001 Barriers Are Movable, Except BRB

Concrete Barriers on Bridges Installation of Barriers –Forced incident response changes on the bridges –Made communication and coordination among neighboring Police, Fire, EMS and private towing contractors imperative

Location Designations on Bridges Locations referenced by Lane Numbers and Gantries/Structures Examples: –CBB: Lanes 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (looking WB into PA) the right lane is Lane #1 –WWB: Lanes 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (looking WB into PA) the right lane is Lane #1 –BFB: Lanes 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (looking WB into PA) the right lane is Lane #1 –BRB: 3 lanes each direction, no number designation

Location Designations on Bridges Gantries/Structures are lettered from “A” to “O” –The CBB is the only bridge lettered to “O” –All other bridges lettered to “J” All gantries start at “A” on the PA side

DRPA Police Protocol First officer on scene responsible to provide accurate information on: –Location –Type of Incident –Injuries –Need for additional resources Police, Fire, EMS –Best route for access to the incident

DRPA Police Protocol Radio communications officer will utilize traffic cameras: –To identify the incident –To relay information to responding patrol units –To provide incident information to responding agencies if police officer is unable to reach scene

Staging Areas Developed for outside assisting agencies –Previously, responding agencies would respond directly to the scene Existing protocol –Fire/EMS directed to pre-set staging area –Fire/EMS wait to be directed to the scene By DRPA police escort By telephone call
