Hinduism Hinduism is the religion of the majority of people in India and Nepal. It also exists among significant populations outside of the sub continent and has over 900 million adherents worldwide. Unlike most other religions, Hinduism has no single founder, no single scripture, and no commonly agreed set of teachings.

Individual rather than communal Hindu worship is primarily an individual act rather than a communal one, as it involves making personal offerings to the deity. Worshippers repeat the names of their favourite gods and goddesses, and repeat mantras. Water, fruit, flowers and incense are offered to god.

Shrine for worship

Bell Worshippers will ring the bell to let God know that they have come to worship and to invite him into the home.

Diva lamp Worshippers will light the lamp and move it around in circles to bring light to the shrine. This light is a symbol of God’s presence.

Sikhism Sikhs are required to pray 5 times a day. These prayers are known as panj bania. Panj Bania refers to five prayers required in Sikhism. Panj is the Sikh word for five, and Bania is plural for bani meaning word or scripture.

Malas A mala is a string of 108 beads with one bead as the summit bead called a 'sumeru'. It is a tool used to keep your mind on the meditation practice.

Judaism It is custom to pray three times a day. Morning Service- Shacharit Afternoon Service- Minchah Evening Service- Ma’ariv

Tallit (Prayer Shawl) The tallit (also pronounced tallis) is a prayer shawl, the most authentic Jewish garment. It is a rectangular-shaped piece of linen or wool with special fringes on each of the four corners. The purpose of the garment is to hold the four corners to remind them of God’s commandements.

Kippah (Cap) This cap is worn by Jewish mean as the law requires men to cover their heads as a sign of respect and reverence for God when praying, studying the Torah, saying a blessing or entering a synagogue.

Yad The Yad Torah Pointer is a long stick shape pointer for pointing the words out of the Torah reading. The traditionally made Torah pPointer always has a pointing finger of a hand at the end of the long stick. It is on the days of Mondays and Thursdays along with the Shabbat that the Pointer is used in the Synagogue to follow along with the readings of the Torah, which is also known as the readings of the Five Books of Moses.

Let us join together in Prayer Heavenly Father, look down upon us this morning to work together as a multicultural school and to enjoy the company of our friends and family. We thank you for our families and our teachers who work so hard to do their best for us. Lord hear us

St Martin’s Prayer Dear St Martin, your whole life was committed to looking after the sick and needy as well as the animals upon the earth. You showed us a wonderful example of the teachings of Jesus. Bless all of us in this school family and help us all to continue to follow your example. St Martin, pray for us.

What is our purpose today? With your child we would like you to make a set of prayer beads, a worship mat and a love stone or holding cross that will be special to both of you. These things you will be able to use as a family to pray together.

We hope you enjoy this morning.
