JUNIOR CONFERENCE 2012 Mangit Hussan Business Interruption: The Rate of Gross Profit is the relationship between Turnover and Gross Profit. Remember that a high Turnover does not necessarily equate to a high Gross Profit. It is the Gross Profit that is insured so this is of importance. In the example given above, we can calculate the rate of profit as follows: Gross Profit £25,000 × 100 = 25% (Rate of Gross Profit) Turnover (Sales) £100,000

JUNIOR CONFERENCE 2012 General: Make Material Size Age Quantity Features Origin Quality

Athletics Team Tell the rest of the attendees how you would explain the principle of Proximate Cause to the Policyholder. How would you establish whether there is any blame on Jon. Explain how insurable interest arises with regard to each of the characters in our scenario. Identify a contentious issue relating to material facts and describe how Insurers, the Broker and the relevant Policyholder may feel about this. Explain how you would deal with this ensuring the customer is treated fairly.

Swimming Team Tell the group what you understand by triaging with regard to mitigation works. Explain how you would manage the expectations Jamil Gillani with regard to the need to triage before carrying out mitigation works. Describe two drying methods and explain the impact on either Sarah Kinash and Mangit Hassan when drying equipment is used. Provide guidance as to which method of drying should be employed in both Sarah’s and Mangit’s properties.

Rowing Team Explain how you would evaluate the nature and extent of Buildings damage to the first floor flat and ground floor retail outlet. Tell us what you would need to take into account to calculate a realistic reserve for Jamil’s Claim. How would you manage the concerns of Mangit and Jamil when you explain that there will be a delay due to the need to undertake a full asbestos survey.

Cycling Team Describe how you would establish the value of the cigarette stock. Tell us how this would differ if a) the stock had been disposed of prior to your visit b) If the stock were still there. Explain what information you would need to validate the value of the watch. Consider how the Policyholder might feel if the watch had been inherited from their deceased parent. Explain the importance of identifying a possible Business Interruption claim. Outline what information you require to establish the rate of gross profit. What documentation would you request to assist in the calculation of the amount payable under the BI Policy.
