Presentation transcript:

Photos of Pearl Harbor Attack Allegedly taken with a Box Brownie - but that’s nonsense

The Claim The said that these were taken by a sailor on the USS Quapaw on a Box Brownie & stored in a foot locker for 68 years before being developed. An obvious load of bollocks. The USS Quapaw did not exist at the time. The photos are from different vantage points And – having owned a box brownie as a kid – I really doubt one could take pictures this good even if the sailor had a great eye for a photo.

This is a Kodak Box Brownie The said “there’s nothing like a good camera”. The Kodak Box Brownie was NEVER a good camera !!

But the rest of the text was OK Sunday, December 7th, 1941 Vice Admiral Nagumo – implemented plan of Yamamoto. But not all fleet in port. USS Enterprise returning from Wake Island; USS Lexington ferrying aircraft to Midway & the USS Saratoga & Colorado being repaired in the US. (Jap’ intelligence knew this just before attack) Japanese had 6 carriers & 423 aircraft. 1 st of a two-wave the fleet in Pearl Harbor & the airfields in Hickam, Kaneohe & Ewa. 2 nd 0715 hours. Same targets. Nagumo did NOT launch 3 rd wave against oil dumps etc

The Cost U.S. Losses: US Army: 218 KIA, 364 WIA. US Navy: 2,008 KIA, 710 WIA. Marine Corp: 109 KIA, 69 WIA. Civilians: 68 KIA, 35 WIA. TOTAL: 2,403 KIA, 1,178 WIA.

The Cost cont. included 8 battleships at Pearl Harbor. 2 – Arizona & Oklahoma - totally destroyed. Pennsylvania light damage only 5 returned to service later 3 cruisers + 3 destroyers damaged but returned. Approx 200 army & naval aircraft destroyed & 159 more damaged
