The Inauguration of Pope Francis 19 March 2013 Solemnity of St. Joseph

We Gather We gather together to celebrate the inauguration of Pope Francis in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Why do we have a pope? The Pope is the leader of the Catholic Church throughout the world. Jesus asked Simon- Peter to be the first leader of the Church.

Pope Francis is the 266 th Pope and will continue the work of St. Peter. He will appoint all the Archbishops and Bishops. They are the successors of the Apostles.

We Learn The signs and symbols of the Papacy

We Listen A reading from the first letter of Peter (5:1-4) Church leaders, I am writing to encourage you. I too am a leader, as well as a witness of Christ’s suffering, and I will share in his glory when it is shown to us. Just as shepherds watch over their sheep, you must watch over everyone God has placed in your care. Do it willingly in order to please God and not simply because you think you must.

Let it be something you want to do, instead of something you do merely to make money. Don’t be bossy to those people who are in your care, but set an example to them. Then when Christ the Chief Shepherd returns, you will be given a crown that will never lose its glory. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
