By: Keith Fitzsimmons IE 500 Final Project – Fall 2014 Lathe Maintenance Ontology (LMO)

Scope Create an ontology which outlines a machines necessary preventative maintenance based on a set time period. 2

Lathes What is a lathe? 3

Preventative Maintenance What is preventative maintenance? 4

Maintenance Regimen 5

Maintenance Task 6

Applications Outlining the required preventative maintenance necessary to ensure proper operation lifespan of equipment. Original equipment manufacturers can use information to see required maintenance on a competitors machine similar to their own. Creation of a centralized location for the storage of all maintenance tasks necessary to complete preventative maintenance on a specific piece of machinery. 7

Existing Ontologies Manufacturing Service Descriptive Language (MSDL) Focuses on solely manufacturing process. Industrial Maintenance Management Ontology (IMAMO) Focuses on what is needed to create a preventative maintenance program. 8

MSDL General overview of the manufacturing process and its capability. Does not include maintenance anywhere in the process. 9

IMAMO – CONCEPT TREE 10

Existing Databases Computerized Maintenance Management Software(CMMS) These programs manage machine maintenance using chart style databases. This style program is normally controlled by a single company, organization or site where the machinery is used. Equipment identifiers may not be unique to a machine in this database if it is used by a large organization. 11

LMO – Continuants The continuants are the machines, their preventative maintenance schedule and objects needed to conduct maintenance tasks. 12

LMO- Preventative Maintenance Schedule 13 The preventative maintenance schedule is recommended by the original equipment manufacturer. Adherence to this impact the warranty on the machine.

LMO - Occurents These include the practiced maintenance regimen; the maintenance tasks and time periods which are used to create the maintenance regimen. 14

Maintenance Regimen Maintenance to be completed as prescribed by the preventative maintenance schedule. Important part of this ontology as different machines can have the same Maintenance Task at a different time period. 15
