First Year Experience (FYE) Student Reactions to DISCOVERe Fall 2014

Demographics 75 Participants 77.4 Hispanic; 12.0 White 77.4 Female

General Perceptions 96% knew how to get help if needed 95% knew how to use necessary apps 80% reported having reliable WiFi access at home 89% reported using the cellular capability of their tablets

Where do you go for help?

In an average class period in all your DISCOVERe courses, when you are using your tablet, what percentage of time do you use your tablet for each of the following purposes. Your total will be 100% AnswerAverage ValueStandard Deviation Work directly related to the course (for example following the instructor’s presentation) Work indirectly related to the course (for example, looking up information mentioned in class) Work unrelated to the course (for example, checking social media, )

When using technology for all your academic work in your DISCOVERe (tablet) courses, what percentage of time do you use each device? For example, if you use your tablet to complete all of your academic work, you would assign 100% to tablet and 0% to all other devices. If you use your tablet for half your work and a laptop for the other half, you would assign these two devices 50% each and others 0%.

How engaged are you in your DISCOVERe courses?

Having students use tablets for schoolwork at Fresno State is a good idea.
