The Three Main Categories of Style in Art

Representational Art Is any type of art in which objects or figures are easily identified. Examples of representational art are realism, impressionism, and the Renaissance.

Abstract art is any art that emphasizes design and a simplified or systematic investigation of forms. The subject matter may be recognized or may be transformed into shape, color and line. Abstract art is however based on real objects and forms. Abstract Art

Nonobjective Art Any art that has no recognizable subject matter such as trees, flowers, or people. The actual subject matter might be color or the composition of the work itself.
