Traditional French Carol Pat a Pan Traditional French Carol Patapan, or Guillaume prends ton tambourin, is a traditional song from the Burgundy region in France. It’s also known in English as Willie Take Your Little Drum. ‘Turelurelu’ is the sound the flute makes and ‘patapatapan’ is the sound of the drum. This is most likely the inspiration for the English Christmas song, The Little Drummer Boy.

Guillaume prends ton tambourin Toi, prends ta flûte, Robin; Au son de ces instruments Turelurelu, patapatapan Au son de ces instruments Je dirai Noël gaîment.

Willie take your little drum, Robin bring your flute and come, Play a joyous tune today.

Turelurelu, pat-a-pat-a pan Play a joyous tune today On this joyous holiday

Silent Night The original lyrics for the song in German, Stille Nacht, was written by Joseph Mohr and  the melody was composed by Franz X. Gruber. The carol was first performed on 24 December 1818 at the St. Nicholas church in Oberndorf, Austria. Since then the Christmas song has achieved world wide appeal and it is said that there are over 300 translations of the song in the world.

Have a holly, jolly Christmas It’s the best time of the year

I don’t know if there’ll be snow, but have a cup of cheer

Say “Hello” to friends you know And everyone you meet.

Oh, ho, the mistletoe hung where you can see

Somebody waits for you, kiss her once for me.

And in case you didn’t hear Oh BY GOLLY Have a Holly Jolly Christmas this year!
